Plantar Fasciitis is by far the single most common foot pain / heel pain issue
people suffer from. Excessive motion and improper foot alignment can cause the
foot to flatten and can repeatedly pull, stretch or even tear the plantar fascia
causing inflammation and pain.
It can be a single abrupt overload of excessive movement or physical activity
that causes the injury or it can be an accumulation of normal activities that
put stress on the foot every day.
Athletes are particularly prone to plantar fasciitis and commonly suffer from
it. Excessive motion during running, jumping, or other repetitive activities can
create excessive stress on the fascia. |

|
The most common complaint from plantar fasciitis is a burning, stabbing, or
aching pain that usually (but not always) occurs on the inside of the foot near
the heel and arch meeting point. Pain can also be felt through-out the
plantar-foot area.
Many sufferers will describe the pain being especially acute first thing in the
morning with the first few steps they take. This happens because during the
night the plantar fascia has rested and tightened and started to heal and with
the first step out of bed we place all our body weight on our feet and can pull
at the plantar fascia reinjuring it.
Pain usually decreases as the tissue warms up, but may easily return again after
long periods of standing or weight bearing, physical activity, or after getting
up after long periods of sitting. |

| How Orthotics Can Help |

By reducing excessive motion and controlling and supporting the foot
during physical activities an orthotic can help to limit how far the plantar
fascia can be pulled or torn thereby reducing the stress and strain on the
plantar fascia.
